Whether or not you are a succulent connoisseur, you’ve probably come across some amazing trailing varieties. Often, these feature foliage that looks like everyday trinkets or accessories we adore. For example, you must check out these trailing succulents that look like jewelry strings.
Trailing Succulents That Look Like Jewelry Strings
1. String of Pearls

Botanical Name: Senecio rowleyanus
Let’s start with the most aptly named one—this succulent looks exactly like a green pearl necklace. The only twist is, it grows pearls in green instead of white!
Now it might seem to you that such a plant would ask for a lot in terms of care, but that’s not the case! Just give it bright, indirect light and the occasional feed, and it’ll grow like a charm.
Note: String of Pearls is toxic if ingested. Keep it out of reach of pets and kids.
2. Ruby Necklace

Botanical Name: Othonna capensis
Did you know the Ruby Necklace is also nicknamed ‘String of Pickles’ or ‘Little Pickles’? That’s thanks to its purple-red stems and lush green leaves.
Under a little stress, those stems turn a richer color, just like how rubies deepen with age. Place it in bright light to bring out its best colors. It shines in hanging baskets!
3. Crassula Baby Necklace

Botanical Name: Crassula rupestris
A beautiful, ornamental succulent from the Crassula genus, you will instantly be reminded of exotic pieces of jewelry, specifically necklaces, with one look at this plant. The leaves are small, round, and fleshy, and are stacked delicately on top of each other and on thin stems. This actually makes them quite fragile!
As the stems are nearly invisible and quite short, each of them with the stacked leaves looks like “baby necklaces”. This plant has excellent cold and drought tolerance, too.
4. Fantasy Venice

Botanical Name: Tradescantia nanouk
This fast-growing hanging succulent looks like it stepped out of a fairytale—just as the name suggests! Its foliage features a blend of white, purple, and green that instantly lifts the mood.
Though it might not look like a piece of jewelry at first glance, it does resemble the exotic colors that you can often find in jewelry.
5. Trailing Jade

Botanical Name: Senecio jacobsenii
Also called the Weeping jade because of its long, trailing growth habit, the Trailing Jade showcases thick, fleshy stems covered with bright, elongated leaves. It is the gorgeous color of the leaves that looks like the precious gemstones -jade or emerald, often used in jewelry.
But that’s not all! You will often find the leaves have hints of purple or pink on the edges, too, which makes it extra beautiful to display in hanging baskets or planters.
Note: This succulent is mildly toxic to pets if ingested.
6. String of Turtles
Botanical Name: Peperomia prostrata
This succulent may not immediately sound like it resembles jewelry at all, but give it a moment! Each small, round leaf carries intricate white and silver patterns—a dead ringer for vintage shell jewelry.
Native to the rainforests of Brazil, you will love displaying this succulent in hanging baskets, pots, and even terrariums.
7. Variegated String of Hearts

Botanical Name: Ceropegia woodii Variegata
If you have already heard of the String of Hearts, this won’t be much of a surprise for you. The variegated cousin of the original succulent, this one features the same delicate, heart-shaped leaves. But it stands out with variegations of green and creamy white.
Plus, as it trails down over the side of hanging planters, it makes for the most incredible display, pretty much like an aesthetic vanity drawer!
8. Silver Dollar Vine

Botanical Name: Xerosicyos danguyi
This plant does double duty—it climbs vertically but looks great trailing too. Its round, bright green leaves resemble tiny coins you might keep for good luck.
You could create a trellis for the Silver Dollar Vine right outside your window for its climbing habit or display it in hanging baskets as usual.
9. String of Buttons

Botanical Name: Crassula perforata
Yet another common item to find in our drawers, apart from trinkets, are buttons! And as a tribute to these very important, and often misplaced items, why not grow the String of Buttons? It gets its name from the button-like leaves that are stacked neatly on top of each other.
All it needs is bright, indirect light and well-draining soil, and it will thrive in hanging baskets.
10. Burro’s Tail

Botanical Name: Sedum burrito
Often confused with the Donkey’s Tail because of similar foliage, there is actually quite a difference between both of them. The Burro’s tail, with its shorter, rounder leaves and thicker stem, looks exactly like statement necklaces that you might often find in your vanity.
The leaves feel soft and a bit velvety, adding the icing on the cake. It loves a sunny window and a sturdy hanging basket.
11. Rattail Cactus

Botanical Name: Aporocactus flagelliformis
Besides the obvious symbolism of a rat’s tail, the Rattail cactus is more than what meets the eye. This succulent has a uniquely playful appearance because of the small, cylindrical green segments that make up the stems. Indeed, they look like exotic necklaces from afar!
It is a perfect fit for sunny windows or artistic corners. Also, it blooms with bright pink flowers in spring—nature’s jewelry at its best!
12. String of Watermelon

Botanical Name: Senecio herreanus
Don’t we all just love those succulents that look like something else? If that’s a resounding yes, String of Watermelons is the one for you. Each of its leaves resembles tiny watermelon slices, complete with the stripes that you normally see on watermelon rinds.
From afar, it resembles a modern necklace, with stones or pearls lined up just right—except here, everything’s green!
13. String of Nickels

Botanical Name: Dischidia nummularia
Here’s a quirky one that lives up to its name! The String of Nickels features round, flat leaves that look just like old-fashioned coins—almost like someone scattered a trail of nickels along a vine.
It’s not just pretty to look at—this epiphytic succulent is also easy to grow. It prefers filtered light and moderate watering, and is perfect for hanging planters where its trailing vines can really shine.
14. Dancing Bones Cactus

Botanical Name: Hatiora salicornioides
Dancing Bones Cactus is all about movement. With thin, jointed stems that look like they’re swaying mid-dance, Hatiora feels like a piece of kinetic jewelry!
As it matures, it produces small yellow flowers that definitely the cherry on top—like nature adding a little sparkle. It’s perfect if you’re looking for something a bit offbeat but still totally eye-catching in a hanging pot.
