Choose a healthy spiderette with small brown nubs at its base. Fill a 10 cm pot with well-draining potting mix. Then set the new pot next to the mother plant. Press the base of the baby plant into the new soil without cutting the runner.
Use a hairpin or bent paperclip to straddle the runner and push it into the soil. This ensures that the spiderette’s base stays in constant contact with the damp soil. Water the baby plant only when the surface feels dry. And snip off the runner only when you see new leaves sprouting from the center of the baby plant.
Keep the spiderette base firmly against the soil with small plant clips or propagation pins while it develops roots.
Water Propagation
Water propagation is a quick start for the baby spider plant, as you clearly watch the roots grow and provide the required nutrition based on root health. Additionally, this method allows the root tips to grow within 48-72 hours only.
Steps to propagate:
- Choose the spiderette with tiny brown bumps at the bottom.
